Small Town Christmas Parade - Hot Chocolate at Franklin Presbyterian

Perfect weather for a Christmas Parade ensured a big turnout this year! We, (children big and small), served free hot chocolate at the steps of the Franklin Presbyterian Church to parade watchers. Over 170 people had their hearts and hands warmed.

Larry ensured a steady supply of hot water with three gas burners.

Eli, Gwen, Genna, and Ada ensured a steady supply of cups with chocolate powder and marshmallows.

Woon Yen, Melanie and Pastor Katie filled and stirred the cups and served them, and chatted and laughed.

Wonderful sign by Brandon looking very Father Christmassy with his hat and beard.

... and the customers just came and enjoyed. Some generous souls even left a contribution which we will use to start a fund for the Youth to go to Montreat.

As presented to the congregation yesterday, our Wednesday Connection speaker, Jane Lewis of the county health department, will provide flu shots to those members and participants who provide proper documentation. There are TWO REQUIREMENTS for those wanting the seasonal flu shot: ONE, you must be a member or regular participant of Franklin Presbyterian Church; TWO: you must 'reserve' your shot by notifying either Woon Yen Prall or the church office by Tuesday at noon in order to receive the flu shot at church Wednesday evening. If you meet these two requirements, please be sure to bring your insurance/medicare/medicaid/other health care card to church. Cost of the shot is $23.00 for this seasonal flu shot.

Pastor Candidate to Speak Sunday 13 Sep 09

A reminder to everyone that Ms. Katie Strednak will be preaching this Sunday September 13th. Katie is our Pastor Nominating Committee's choice to be our next pastor and Sunday will be the day for the entire congregation to both meet and hear Katie speak and to then vote on terms of call for her. This is such an exciting time for us!

Do please make every effort to be at church this Sunday and to stay for the Congregational Meeting that will follow, during which the vote will be taken and the decision made.

See you then if not before,
Lisa B.

Adult Handbells and Choir

The Chapel Bells resumes this week on Wednesday August 12 from 6-7pm. Knowledge of music is helpful but not required - you might be surprised at how many of us "circle our notes"!
We usually have the Fellowship meal at 5:30 then head to handbells at 6pm and on to adult choir practice at 7pm. Our adult choir is amazing - so much talent in a group of about 18 each Sunday is striking. Come and join us as we've lost three strong voices three handbell ringers to graduation and college life. Shirley Karrick leads both handbells and adult choir as well as serving as organist for FPC. You cannot be around Shirley without smiling, so fun at bells and choir is pretty much a given. Hope to see you there.

Children's Chimes and Choir

Children's Chimes for kids ages 8 years and up begins its first full season on Wednesday August 12th at 5:00pm. Musical knowledge/experience is not a requirement to play the chimes - leader Donna Houston will teach you what you need to know.

Children's Choir is also starting up again on Wednesday at 5:30pm. Kids ages 8 years and up are encouraged to come and spend half an hour singing and learning about the Bible and God's role in our daily lives. Donna Houston also directs this choir.

We always make room for pizza and soft drinks (at no cost to the kids) so please make every effort to be part of these new programs at our church.

Wednesday Connection Resumes this week

The fall term of Wednesday Connection begins this week at 5:30 in Fellowship Hall. The meal is $6.00 and checks should be made to Woon Yen Prall. This week's 6pm speaker is Clara Sumner, CEO of the Medical Center of Franklin. Our local hospital is a real gem and we look forward to having Clara here to tell us about the new building project that's underway.

Battery Operated CD Player

Wanted to see if anyone from the church would happen to have a good battery operated CD player that we could use Sunday at the baptism. Katherine has requested a song off a CD to be played at the baptism.
